Middle School Makes Sandy Hook Promise

Wapato Middle School students are doing their part to protect children from gun violence.  The students are supporting Sandy Hook Promise with a See Something? Hear Something? SAY Something!!! campaign.  Sandy Hook Promise is a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.  The mission of the organization is to prevent gun-related deaths due to crime, suicide and accidental discharge so that no other parent experiences the senseless, horrific loss of their child.

The idea behind the Middle School’s campaign is to empower students to speak up if they come across any information that may seem threatening in nature.  The Middle School’s Leadership students took the lead in creating a large display supporting the campaign.  It is located on the stage in the Middle School’s cafeteria.  It consists of two large banners and lots of balloons to help draw attention to the messages.  One of the messages reinforces the See Something? Hear Something? SAY Something!!! call to action.  The other provides information about an app that provides students an anonymous way of sending tips to law enforcement about crimes or concerns of threats.
