Wapato High School Starting Hybrid In-Person Instruction February 17th

Dear Parents/Guardians of Wapato High School Students,

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Wapato High School has been approved to move into our hybrid learning model.  Over the last several months, we have been working closely with the Yakima Health District (YHD) to determine when we could safely move to the hybrid learning model.  The Health District has given us the go ahead starting next week.

In this model, we will have three groups of students: an A group, a B group, and an O group.  Our A group is the group of in-person students that will come into the building on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Our B group is the group of in-person students that will come into the building on Thursdays and Fridays.  Our O group is the group of students that will remain completely online.  A list of what group each student is in was posted on the school-wide Google Classroom, and the students were told by their 4th period teacher what group they are in.

As we welcome large groups of students back into the building, the health and safety of our students and staff will be a top priority.  It will take each of us doing our part to ensure we keep everyone safe.  The best way for us to keep everyone safe is by following our five layers of safety:

  • Daily Health Attestation - stay home if you are not feeling well.
  • Face Covering - must be worn at all times while in the building (except when eating or drinking).
  • Physical Distancing - maintaining a minimum of six feet of distance from others.
  • Hand Washing - washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds several times a day.
  • Cleaning of the Building - We have increased the frequency of facility cleaning schedules that includes cleaning and sanitizing with a particular emphasis on commonly touched surfaces.

Daily Building Entry Procedures

  • Students can arrive anytime after 6:45 am.
  • Students who ride the bus or walk will enter from the bus loop doors (the east doors on the north side of the building).
  • Students who walk, drive, or are dropped off by parents will enter the building using the front doors.
  • Students will turn in their daily attestation card and have their temperature checked before entering the building.
  • Students will go wash their hands in the restroom.
  • After washing their hands, students will go directly to the commons.
  • Any student arriving after 7:35 am will enter through the front doors.

Safety Measures

  • Physical distancing markers are placed on side-walks outside every entry door.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be accessible near every main entrance/exit.
  • Extra masks are available at each door to ensure that everyone entering has a mask.
  • Parents/guardians, along with other non-essential visitors and staff, are not permitted on campus during hybrid learning.
  • Drop off of items during the school day is limited to emergency items only.
  • Due to the risk of transmission of COVID-19 our common drinking fountains will not be used.
  • Students may bring water bottles.
  • The bottles may be refilled at water stations in the commons.
  • Students will need to use the provided hand sanitizer before getting water from the water stations.

We are very excited to welcome students back into the building.  We have missed our students and can’t wait to see them in the building again.  There is an excitement that is growing everyday in anticipation of our students returning.  We have been working hard to ensure we can have our students return safely, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we keep them safe as we move forward.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school at 509-877-3138.

Sincerely,
