If you have an interest in running for a publically elected position in your community the candidate filing week is coming the middle of this month.  The filing week is from May 17-21.  Offices open for election around Yakima County in the upcoming election season include city councils, fire districts, school board seats and more. 

There will be three Wapato School Board seats on the ballot this year.  They include full 4-year terms for Director Districts #1 and #2 and a 2-year unexpired term for Director District #4.

In order to file as a candidate you must live in and be a registered voter in the district for which you are running.  To see maps of the different director districts click here.

The responsibilities of a school board member include setting policy for the district, budget oversight serving as ambassadors for the district and more.  For more information about serving on a school board you can visit the Washington State School Directors Association website at www.wssda.org.
