The District wants to make families aware of a rumor circulating in the community about a threat referencing Wapato High School.  District administration learned about this last night (April 11) when a student reported it to a high school staff member.  The District immediately contacted law enforcement and began looking into the rumor.  Law enforcement contacted the family and spoke with the student who reportedly made the threatening comments. They also interviewed others with knowledge of the situation and concluded that at this point there is no threat to the school.  However, out of an abundance of caution the District does have additional law enforcement supervision in place today (Friday, April 12).

In alignment with District discipline procedures when dealing with these kinds of reports the District has removed the student from school while it and law enforcement conduct additional interviews.

We also want to commend the student who notified the high school staff member of this rumor.  It serves as a good reminder for the community at large, if you see or hear about anything you think is a threat to the safety of the school learning environment please say something.

El Distrito quiere informar a las familias sobre un rumor que circula en la comunidad sobre una amenaza que hace referencia a la escuela secundaria Wapato High School. La administración del distrito se entero de esto anoche (11 de abril) cuando un estudiante informó a un miembro del personal de la escuela secundaria. El distrito se comunicó inmediatamente con la policia y comenzo a investigar el rumor. Las autoridades se comunicaron con la familia y hablaron con el estudiante que supuestamente hizo los comentarios de amenaza. Tambien entrevistaron a otras personas con conocimiento de la situación y concluyeron que en este momento no existe ninguna amenaza para la escuela. Sin embargo, por precaución, el Distrito tendra supervision policial adicional para hoy (viernes, 12 de abril).

De acuerdo con los procedimientos del Distrito al tratar con este tipo de informes, el Distrito ha retirado al estudiante de la escuela mientras se realizan entrevistas adicionales por parte de la escuela y las autoridades.

Tambien queremos reconocer al estudiante que notificó este rumor al miembro del personal de la esceula secundaria. Sirve como un buen recordatorio para la comunidad en general: si ve o escucha algo que cree que es una amenaza para la seguridad del entorno de aprendisaje escolar, por favor dígalo.
