Wapato High School Principal Receives State Recognition for Supporting Music Education

Congratulations to Wapato High School Principal Eric Diener for the recognition he recently received from the Washington State Music Educators Association (WMEA).  Mr. Diener has been chosen by the WMEA as its Administrator of the Year for his exceptional support of music education.  He was honored at an awards ceremony during the WMEA’s annual state conference held in Yakima in mid-February.

The WMEA receives nominations for this award from music educators across the State.  Wapato High School Choir Teacher, Aaron Nix, is the one who nominated Mr. Diener for this prestigious recognition.  Mr. Nix says the growth of his program at Wapato High School is a reflection of the support and flexibility Mr. Diener has given the Fine Arts Department.

The WMEA critiques the nominees using a variety of criteria when making its decision.  They include how the nominee supports music as a core subject, how the nominee promotes a vision of a quality music education for all students and how the nominee publicly recognizes excellence in music, music students and music programs.

The Wapato School District joins the WMEA in congratulating Mr. Diener for this well deserved recognition.
